London, United Kingdom
Leading financial firms around the world seek talented individuals who can bring core financial knowledge and critical thinking from the outset.
Delivered by two of UCL’s leading departments, the School of Management and the Department of Economics, and hosted in the centre of London’s finance hub in Canary Wharf, the MSc Finance is a generalist programme designed to equip ambitious students, like you, with a deep understanding of the finance principles, financial practices, analytical techniques, and decision-making skills necessary to thrive in the fast-paced, finance industry.
The programme offers students you an ideal balance between scientific foundations and practice. The curriculum is closely aligned with the CFA curriculum and covers most of the topics included in CFA Level 1 and Level 2. While the programme is not specifically designed as a preparation for the CFA exam, it focuses on the underlying scientific foundations (and, in place, lack thereof) of financial practice and teaches you to identify and respond to challenges and issues in real-world scenarios.
You'll graduate having acquired a wide range of analytical skills, qualitative insights, and the ability to work flexibly, creatively, and internationally in a range of finance-related areas. Providing the most relevant financial knowledge, understanding, and skills in a range of areas critical to the effective functioning of current and developing finance-related applications, this programme will be instrumental in helping you achieve your goals as a finance professional.
As a graduate, you will typically be placed in a financial company, but you will also have opportunities in the finance departments of non-financial companies. In both cases, roles are likely to be more of a generalist nature with less intense data exposure than our MSc Finance with Data Science programme. Typical examples will be a Financial Analyst or Corporate Analyst at commercial or investment banks, but you will also have ample opportunities at mutual funds, hedge funds, and other financial firms.
Graduates from the MSc Finance programme have secured jobs in a variety of high-profile companies, such as; AXA Group, Barclays, Boston Consulting Group, Deloitte, Deutsche Bank, EY, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, PwC, and more.
