Language Tests

Overview

Graduate school is demanding if you are studying in your native language, and all the more so if you are learning in a foreign language classroom. That is why universities around the world need a reliable assessment of your language proficiency as part of your application for admission. They want to make sure that language alone will not be a barrier during your studies in Masters degree programmes.

► Meet top Masters programmes from around the world.

If you are not native English speaker and you want to obtain your Masters degree in a programme taught in English, then you will be required to sit one of the internationally-recognised English language proficiency tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, etc.

Most standardised testing organisations will provide test takers with some sort of practice materials to help them prepare. These materials typically review the topics covered by the tests and include practice quizzes and exams.

In addition to the materials provided by the testing organisations, there are a variety of test preparation materials produced by other organisations. There are even classes available to help you prepare. You can purchase books and study guides online and in bookstores. Most of these publications are very similar and enable you to practise using a wealth of materials.
